Steps to fix Messenger Not Working on Windows 11 | Full Guide


we all know what the Facebook messenger is. A messaging application that can be used to chat with family friends, basically messenger is used for communication purpose, sending text, information, videos and audios etc. 

Later on  the Facebook messenger was made available for windows and MacOS. The official messenger application is available and can be downloaded for free on the Microsoft Store

Many users reported experiencing , the messenger does not work on the windows 11 problem, most often users experience this issue after upgrading the version of their PC to windows 11. 4. The installation files for messenger are corrupted. 

5. Outdated Messenger cache files. 


Procedures to Fix Messenger Not Working on Windows 11

Below are the things you can do to resolve this issues;


1. Relaunch the Messenger application on Windows 11

What you ought to do is to relaunch the app, it’s a troubleshooting technique which can fix messenger related issues. 

a. First and foremost, tap on the windows 11 search and input ‘Task Manager’, then open the task manager app form the list.

b. Switch to the processes tab on the right side. 

c. Right click on the messenger and select ‘End Task’. 

d. Once you’re through with it, open the messenger app from the desktop screen.


2. Restart Your Windows 11 PC

a. Click the windows start button and select settings. 

b. Switch to the apps section on the left over on the settings. 

c. On the right side, click installed Apps. 

d. locate the messenger app, tap on the three dots, and select Advanced options. And click repair by the next screen. 

e. This will fix the messenger app installation files. After repairing, launch the messenger app. If the app is still not working, move to the Advanced options screen and click Reset option. 


5. Clear the Microsoft Store Cache 

A lot of windows 11 users has claimed to resolve the error message by just clearing the Microsoft Store cache. You can as well try it out to see if the problem fixes. Below is how to clear the Microsoft Store  Cache.

a.  Press the windows key + R button to open the RUN dialog box. 

b. As soon as the dialogue box opens, input wsreset.exe and strike the Enter key. Afterwards, you will see a black command prompt, it shows the cache is being cleared. 


6. Install all pending Windows 11 Update 

You need to update your operating system to the latest Version, because most often, bugs in the operating system can prevent the messenger application from working on your windows 11. What you will do is locate the windows update settings from settings > windows updates. All your pending windows 11 will be seen on the right hand side. Download all pending updates and install them, when you’re done restart your computer and launch the messenger application. 



7. Reinstall the Messenger Application 

You can try reinstalling the app if the messenger is still on the loading screen. Reinstallation is the best thing to do so as to  reinstall the messenger application, simply click windows search and type in messenger. Right click on messenger and select uninstall, a prompt will appear, select Uninstall again. When done login with your Facebook account and use the app on your windows 11 PC. 


8. Use the Messenger Web Version 

You can use the messenger web version if you don’t have time going through all these methods. 

Messenger’s web version allows you to chat with your Facebook friends and access it from any web browser.
